Monday

Abu Qatada Ansari (Radiallahu anhu) reported:

Allah’s Massenger (Sallahu Alahyi Wa Salaam) was asked about fasting on monday, whereupon he said: It is (the day) when I was born and revelation was sent down to me.

    Bismillahir Rahmanir Raheem:

I have seen that this specific hadeeth is used by some to justify celebrating Mawlid of Prophet Muhammad (sallallahu Aleyhey Wasallam).

That is, if the Prophet had reverence for the day that he was born then why wouldn’t his followers.

However, the followers who celebrate the mawlid of the Prophet have tangented in two ways from the hadeeth:

    Birtdate vs Birthday:
The reverence for Prophet’s birthday by some of the followers aims to celebrate the actual date (12th Rabbiul Awwal) which is once every calendar year, as opposed to what the Prophet mentioned is regarding the day (i.e. Monday, of each week).

    Actions/Manifestations on the Birthday:
Secondly, the actions and manifestation also differ dramatically as the Prophet showed his reverence for his birthday by fasting every week on Monday, while some of his followers do Meelaad gathering, reciting Nasheeds and doing zikr/fatheeha, and even Qawwali as a get together.

Perhaps the spirit or intentions were good of these followers, but their actions is obviously an innovation which is non-compliant to the sunnah of Rasul Allah (sallallahu Aleyhey Wasallam), when it comes to honoring the birthday of the prophet.

    Allahu Aalam
